Binzhou Medical University (BMU) is a provincial university of applied sciences, co-constructed by Shandong Provincial Education Department and local municipal governments. Its predecessor is the Medical School of Public Shandong University originally established in 1946. In March 1956, the Medical School became independent as Qingdao Medical College and moved to Beizhen, Huimin area in October 1970. In November 1974, Beizhen Branch of Qingdao Medical College was established and in September 1983, it took on its current name Binzhou Medical University after the name of city it was in. In 2002, Yantai campus was put into use and became the main campus. BMU has combined multiple disciplines of medicine, science, engineering, management and education, with medical disciplines being its advantage and rehabilitation medicine and education for the disabled being its specialties.
BMU has over 17,793 full-time students, including over 15,538 undergraduates and junior college students as well as 1,919 postgraduates. There are altogether 11,350 faculty members working in Binzhou Medical University and its five affiliated hospitals. Among the faculty members, 2370 have senior professional titles and 789 teachers have doctoral degree.
